So You Decided To Stop Smoking

So you have decided to stop smoking. Congratulations! You have taken the first step on the road to a longer, healthier, wealthier life.

The next few weeks and months will not be easy. Whether you have been smoking for many years or a relative newcomer, it will not be easy to break this very addictive habit. But remember, you have lots of help to stop smoking available. Whilst it is ultimately your decision as to how to tackle the problem, you don’t have to do it alone. Whichever way you decide to go, you must really want to give up to suceed.

Hypnosis is one of the easiest ways to stop smoking. This takes away an awful lot of the craving, but will only ‘take’ if you really want to give up smoking. This is not a cheap option, so if you have decided to stop smoking to save money, this may not be for you, but it will save you money long term.

Be aware of the potential addictive manner of nicotine patches and gum. They will certainly help to ease the craving for nicotine but can become almost as addictive as cigarettes. Side effects can also be problematic. Watch out for mouth ulcers with nicotine gum. If you are wearing patches, you should not smoke as this can cause an overload of nicotine and make you quite ill.

For those trying to give up smoking for the first time, going cold turkey is by far the preferred option. However, if you fail, then this will put you off trying again to quit, and it is probably the most difficult route. But, don’t give up. However many times you have tried – and failed- to give up smoking, try again. This time may be the time that you finally succeed.

There is one essential ingredient for success, no matter which technique you choose to give up smoking. You must really want to stop smoking. You will not succeed without that strong desire to give up smoking.But there are a few simple things that may help you in your desire to stop smoking.

Try to avoid the smoking triggers. Replace the regular cigarette after meals with something different. A chocolate is often used, but for those of us who are overweight, this is not a good option. Perhaps a drink of water or tea or coffee might work for you – or even clearing the table and washing up! The same thing applies to last thing at night or first thing in the morning. Try to avoid the problem by keeping busy with other activity during these danger times. A drink of cold water first thing in the morning and last thing at night is really god for you. It helps remove toxins from your body and helps your kidneys to function better.

Now that you have taken the first steps to quit smoking, keep working hard to make it stick. If you really want it enough’ you CAN do it!
